Northern America is the northernmost region of North America. The boundaries may be drawn slightly differently. In one definition, it lies directly north of Middle America (Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America). Northern America's land frontier with the rest of North America then coincides with the Mexico–United States border. Geopolitically, according to the United Nations' scheme of geographic regions and subregions, Northern America consists of Bermuda, Canada, Greenland, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, and the United States of America (excluding Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands and other minor US territories).

A region located between the North American region and South America. Almost the entire territory of this region in the past was a Spanish colony, and in the 19th century it separated from independent Mexico in the form of the United Provinces of Central America, which, however, lasted only 17 years and then broke up into 5 independent countries known to us today. In the XX century, they were joined by 2 more countries that gained independence.

The historical name of the Caribbean islands, including the Caribbean, Bahamas and islands in the adjacent waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean (including some continental islands off the coast of the continent).
